Top 10 Playstation Games that need to be on PSOne Classics

1. Suikoden II

Suikoden II is known by many RPG fans as one of the greatest games not only on the PlayStation, but of all time. That's right, many people rank this Konami title with the likes of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VII (or VI), yet for some reason Suikoden II is very much missing from the PSOne Classics line-up.

Suikoden II is a tale following two friends as they and the continent get caught up in a devastating war. What really stands out about the tale, though, is the writing, and the focus on the characters as the plot moves forward. While the overarching plot may not be the most unique storyline, the more intimate aspect of the protagonist and Joey, and also the growth and personalities of many of the other 108 (!!) playable characters is what really drives the narrative home.

That's not all, though; Suikoden II offers some fun gameplay as well. There are three types of battles to fight through during your journey: Typical six-member turn based battles, one-on-one duels that are work off of rock-paper-scissors mechanics, and army battles that have scores of people fighting one another. Add on gathering the 108 Stars of Destiny (a.k.a. your party members), various mini-games, and even extra content if you have a save file of the original Suikoden lying around, and you have a well-rounded RPG.

But, rather unfortunately, while it is sometimes lauded as one of the best PlayStation RPGs, it's also one of the rarest. Suikoden II suffered a very limited print run, and due to slow sales at the time of its release didn't help matters. The PS1 game can go for upwards of a hundred dollars for just the disc, making it very prohibitive for new players to enjoy. Also, with the original Suikoden already a PSOne Classic, it seems almost a no-brainer that its superior sequel should make it to the service as well, but it is still M.I.A. in the line-up.

Conclusion

Sony really has a great idea with re-releasing some of its old library content on PSN, but they really need to step it up! There are plenty of classics deserving to be on the service, some of which almost impossible for the average gamer to get in a reasonable fashion, yet the PSOne Classics still have significant holes in their ranks.

Will these ten titles make it to PSN someday? It's hard to tell. Some are already available in other region's PlayStation Networks, making a North American exclusion somewhat odd, while others have already been released in another format (be it another digital distribution methods, or other types of ports or remakes), making the transition to PSOne Classics a secondary priority for developers and publishers. But we can always hope that someday these games will someday grace our newer Sony systems!
