Gameplay [GMPL] A. Controls [CTRL] If you've played Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, or Warriors Orochi, you'll pick up on Arslan: the Warriors of Legend pretty quickly. The controls for the PlayStation 4 version of the game are detailed below. S = Square T = Triangle O = Circle LA = Left Analog RA = Right Analog U/D/L/R = Up/Down/Left/Right on D-pad S = Normal Attack. Can be chained together or combined with T to perform various combos. Execute a special attack during a Mardan Rush. T = Power Attack. Takes longer to execute than a normal attack, but is either more powerful or has a special effect. Pull switches. Display the Battle Log on the Battle Info screen. When mounted, allows for a short burst of speed if pressed once. X = Jump, climb ladders, mount or dismount a horse, or cancel a Mardan Rush. Confirm menu selections. O = Special Attack. A powerful attack that renders the user temporarily invulnerable and consumes one segment of the Spirit Points (SP) gauge. Cancel menu selections. R1 = Unique Skill. Has a different effect for each character and consumes a small amount of the SP gauge. Will execute a Chain Strike if used after a Power Attack. L1 = Block frontal attacks or do a quick recovery. L1 + LA = Dodge roll. Will temporarily slow an enemy's movement if used to evade the enemy's Power Attack. R2 = Activate a Mardan Rush (after entering a Rush Zone). L2 = Call a horse. Can be held down to mount it. Does not work in certain areas. LA = Move the character. RA = Move the camera. U/D = Scroll through menu selections. L/R = Switch weapons. Options = Bring up the Battle Info screen or skip cutscenes. B. Overview [OVRV] Arslan: The Warriors of Legend is based on an anime and manga, which in turn is based on a series of novels inspired by Persian mythology and the Byzantine- Persian wars. In this game, you take control of the idealistic young Prince Arslan and several of his allies as you fight to rescue his captured father and reclaim the throne of Pars. If you want to be successful in your endeavor, you'll need to know how to read the map. Blue dots represent allied units, red dots represent enemy units, and yellow flashes indicate places where the two have met and are trying to inflict fatal injuries on each other. The green arrow represents your character, and a green dot represents the last mount you used; in co-op games, a yellow arrow represents the second player's character. Green brackets indicate either a location or a unit that's vital to one of your objectives, so if you aren't sure what you need to do, just follow the glowing green road. The characters you control can earn many spoils from battles, including experience, weapon proficiency, gold, and Skill Cards. A character who earns enough experience will go up in level (up to a maximum of 50), gaining more health, attack, defense, and Skill Card points, and possibly new attacks and another SP gauge segment (up to a maximum of 3). Characters' health and SP are fully restored when they gain a level, which can be invaluable when they're surrounded by enemies. Weapon proficiency is used to unlock new Weapon Arts. Every weapon has four Arts: one is initially available, and three more are unlocked as the wielder becomes more practiced with the weapon. The six Art forms are Power, Fire, Water, Wind, Miasma, and Fusion; all of these except Power activate elements on certain attacks, which will either do increased damage to enemies or weaken them in some way. Each Art also has its own moveset. In addition to experience and weapon proficiency, characters can collect Skill Cards and gold on the battlefield. Skill Cards are dropped by defeated enemies or given as rewards for completing objectives during a battle, and can be equipped to increase your characters' stats or give them special abilities. (There are also Limited Skill Cards in many battles, which you can collect by fulfilling specific conditions or Hard or Extreme difficulty.) Gold is used to synthesize Skill Cards, allowing you to combine the ones you've collected to create a new one. A character can equip up to 3 Skill Cards, but the total cost of these cards cannot exceed the character's available points. 1. Story Mode [STMO] This is the first mode of the game you'll get to experience after creating a new save file. You'll be prompted to choose a difficulty level - Easy, Normal, Hard, or Extreme - before being thrust into your first battle. The difficulty level you selected will become the default for this file, though you will be given the option to change it if you suffer a defeat. In each battle, you will have to complete one or more missions in order to achieve victory. You will have to use a specific character to complete each mission, and you lose the battle if the character you're controlling runs out of health or if one of the defeat conditions is met. In some cases, you can also lose the battle by running out of time, though 30 minutes should be more than enough to complete any of the battles in the game. After winning a battle, you will see a series of cinematic cutscenes that narrate the game's story. When the last cutscene ends, the next battle will begin. If you quit the game while a battle is in session, you will have to start it from the beginning the next time you play (unless you use an interim save). Completing battles in Story Mode will unlock new characters you can use and new battles you can fight in Free Mode. 2. Free Mode [FRMO] This mode allows you to play through all of the battles you've cleared in Story Mode...and then some! There are just two major differences between these modes. The first difference is that you can cook food before Free Mode battles, which you'll first be able to do after clearing Escape from Mt. Bashur in Story Mode and collecting your first Recipe Book. Cooking costs gold, but the food you prepare provides you with various benefits in battle, such as increased health, attack, or defense. Moreover, as you gain experience preparing each food item, its effects will increase. You can only cook once before each battle, though, so choose your meal wisely. The second difference is that you don't have to use the characters you were required to use in Story Mode - you can play through Free Mode battles with any of the characters you've unlocked. Just be aware that you'll have to use your selected character for the entire battle, even if you'd normally control two or three different characters at different points. Free Mode is ideal for collecting Limited Skill Cards and Recipe Books, since you can get hints on how to acquire each one before starting a battle. 3. Online Mode [OLMO] This mode allows you to team up with other players from all over the world and play through Story Mode or Free Mode battles together. C. Helpful Hints [HEHI] Special campaigns take place each day. Take advantage of them to get more mileage out of the gold or experience you earn. You'll earn more experience and weapon proficiency by playing on higher difficulty levels. If you want great rewards, take great risks. Complete Free Mode battles as you unlock them. You'll sometimes gain access to new weapons for the characters you've unlocked. When playing co-op games, both players' K.O. counts will be added together and used to evaluate objective progress. Take advantage of this to more easily earn S ranks on objectives that require you to defeat a certain number of enemies. When facing mixed groups of enemies, always target the archers first. Their arrows might not do much damage, but they can make you stagger and interrupt your combos. A character whose health is in the red will automatically regain SP over time. If this happens, use Special Attacks and Unique Skills to survive until you can find a way to heal yourself. Missile weapons can score several hits at once at short or medium range, making them useful when facing armored opponents. Get a little bit of practice with each Weapon Art you unlock. You can combine multiple weapons' Arts to maximize the damage of characters' Chain Strikes and the effectiveness of their elements. Chain Strikes with Fire and Miasma Weapon Arts are especially good at depleting the health of powerful enemies. When fighting named enemy generals (as opposed to the more common Generals), roll out of the way when they start attacking and counterattack while they're slowed. Infantry Mardan Rushes are great for accumulating long CHAINs of hits. Use their special attack on groups of enemies to score several thousand hits at once. Some combinations of Skill Cards produce enhanced effects. Try to acquire the cards necessary to complete the bonus sets - their effects can be quite potent. Limited Skill Cards and Recipe Books will appear as bright green stars on your map. If you earn one, don't forget to collect it before you finish the battle! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. Battle Walkthroughs [BWLK] The following walkthroughs were written while playing through various battles on Hard difficulty. Remember that all of the acquisition conditions listed for the Limited Skill Cards must be fulfilled while completing specific mission objectives on Hard or Extreme difficulty. A. Story Mode - Tutorial [SMP0] 1. Prologue [B001] Character: Arslan Mission: Defeat the Lusitanian forces! Defeat Conditions: N/A Recipe Book: N/A Limited Skill Card: N/A You start this battle on horseback. Ride northeast toward the front lines, running past or jumping over the enemy soldiers - there's no point in fighting them yet. When the Rush Zone appears, enter it and do a Mardan Rush to break up the enemy lines. Do a second one when prompted to break through the barricade, then watch the cutscene. 2. Eran's Training Session [B002] Character: Arslan Mission: Conduct training exercises with Vahriz! Defeat Conditions: N/A Recipe Book: N/A Limited Skill Card: N/A 11-year-old Arslan is training with Vahriz. Open the chests at the back of the room while your trainer is talking, then hit the Cavalry Lieutenant with 5 Normal Attacks and 3 Power Attacks when the objectives appear. The Cavalry Lieutenant will give you a Light Spear. Switch weapons and attack him 5 times, then perform a Chain Strike against him. Vahriz will give you The Shah's Right Hand, your first Skill Card. Equip it, then hit him with a Special Move and a Unique Skill and block and evade his attacks as the objectives appear. Attack him to deplete his shield, then fight him until you reduce his health by half. 3. Escape of a Young Gholam [B003] Character: Arslan Mission: Flee along with the Lusitanian Boy Soldier! Defeat Conditions: The Lusitanian Boy Soldier is captured. Recipe Book: N/A Limited Skill Card: N/A Arslan has agreed to become a boy soldier's captive and help him escape. Destroy the barricade, head northwest, then follow him up the ladder and leap across the platforms to reach the opposite side. If you fall off, you can climb the ladder to get back up. You'll be transported to the western central part of the battlefield; break open the five treasure chests while you rest, then flee up the stairs to the northwest when the Parsian soldiers find you. B. Story Mode - First Half [SMP1] 1. Battle of Atropatene [B101] Character: Arslan, Daryun Mission: Defeat the Lusitanian forces! Head toward the Escape Point! Assist Arslan! Defeat Conditions: Arslan is defeated. Recipe Book: N/A Limited Skill Card: 1000 K.O.s in 7 mins. You start on horseback in the southwest corner of the battlefield. After equipping your Skill Cards of choice, head north and defeat the General to clear the barrier, then proceed south and defeat the two Generals there to rendezvous with your allies on the front lines. Defeat the General in the southwest, then advance northeast with your allies, opening any treasure chests you find and clearing out any peons and Assault Captains that stand between you and the next General. Defeating him will trigger the appearance of a Rush Zone; use it to break through the barrier in the northwest, then head west and save the Cavalry Lieutenants from the Assault Captain and the General when the fire breaks out. When the enemy cavalry charges, flee toward the escape point in the northwest. A falling tower will block the path, and a traitorous Kharlan will confront you. You'll assume control of Daryun at this point. Charge northwest, pummel the General into submission, and scatter the other three Generals to rescue your allies, using the Rush Zone if necessary. Next, head northeast to break through the barrier and proceed north and west along the path to the target point, then continue north and west after getting the message that the shah has retreated. Defeat the General who blocks your path, then hurry toward your destination in the west before the Lusitanian army catches up to you. When you meet up with Arslan, you'll face Kharlan. He's a tough opponent, so you'll want to clear out the peons around him to eliminate distractions. Evade his attacks to slow him and then wail on him until his armor breaks and he recovers from his daze. At half health, he'll become enraged, so watch out for the shockwaves from his attacks as you finish him off. If Kharlan severely weakens you, take advantage of your SP regeneration and spam your Unique Skill to interrupt his attacks. 2. Retreat from Atropatene [B102] Character: Arslan Mission: Head toward Narsus' house! Defeat Conditions: Either Arslan or Daryun is defeated. Recipe Book: N/A Limited Skill Card: 5000 CHAIN. Defeat the enemy archers and the Gatekeeper by your starting position. When the enemy reinforcements appear, defeat the General, the Assault Captains, and the Defense Captain to proceed. Follow the path as it snakes to the north and east, cutting down a Defense Captain, a General, and two Assault Captains to rescue the Parsian soldiers. Run over to the Rush Zone and initiate a Mardan Rush to break through the barrier, then follow the western path until catapults start raining rocks down on your head. Either fight your way north through the enemy forces, or hug the cliff walls to reduce your chances of being hit. When you encounter the General in the northwest, dispatch him to finish the battle. 3. Escape from Mt. Bashur [B103] Character: Elam, Narsus Mission: Destroy the Checkpoint! Escape from Mt. Bashur! Defeat Conditions: Arslan is defeated. Recipe Book: After breaking through the Checkpoint, on way to the Escape Point. Limited Skill Card: 450 K.O.s in 3 mins. You start in the northwest corner. Blast your way through the two Gatekeepers and the Cavalry Lieutenants to the east, then use a Mardan Rush to smash through the gates to your south. If Kharlan's forces didn't pull ahead of you, Narsus will block their path with a rockslide; if they did, he'll say that his trap is now pointless. Either way, you'll have to overcome three Cavalry Lieutenants to clear the checkpoint, one of whom will be armored. After clearing the checkpoint, you'll take control of Narsus. Head south, grab the Recipe Book by the gate, and then fight your way to the pier in the west. Elam will see that the boat has been scuttled and head north to fetch a new one. Survive the enemy's attacks for 3 minutes, and you're home free. 4. The Queen's Escape [B104] Character: Gieve Mission: Escape with the Queen! Defeat Conditions: Either Gieve or Tahamenay is defeated. Recipe Book: Defeat the officer with the key and open a specific gate. Limited Skill Card: K.O. set officer in 1 min. From your starting position in the northeast, follow the hallway to the east, south, and west, silencing any Messengers you meet to stop them from calling for reinforcements. Defeat the General in the large room to open the portcullis and follow green prompts that appear on your map, which will lead you to the northwest. When you reach the northernmost chamber, the queen will reveal herself to be an imposter and run off. Pursue her to the south and until the masked man appears and cuts her down in a cutscene, then fight off the peons he leaves behind to deal with you when he withdraws. Return to the northernmost chamber, and the portcullis will close; proceed south and pound on the three Generals before they retreat. One of them will tell you how to get back to the palace, and once you defeat the enemies by the escape point in the southeast, you can do just that. 5. Confrontation with Kharlan [B105] Character: Arslan, Farangis, Daryun Mission: Distract Kharlan's forces! Destroy the reinforcements! Capture Kharlan! Defeat Conditions: Either Arslan or Elam is defeated. Either Arslan or Narsus is defeated. Either Arslan or Daryun is defeated. Recipe Book: Break a specific object before initiating the fire attack. Limited Skill Card: 350 K.O.s in 5 mins. You start close to the center of the battlefield and on horseback. Annihilate the surrounding Assault Captains, doing your best to avoid the charging cavalry as you do, until the armored Cavalry Lieutenant arrives. You'll assume control of Farangis; fight your way east past the two Defense Captains, then veer south and decimate the next two. Press on until Kharlan's reinforcements arrive, then head toward the destination to trigger the appearance of a Rush Zone and use a Mardan Rush to start a fire and throw the enemies into a panic. Finish off the weakened Defense Captains, then charge west to trigger a cutscene in which Arslan confronts Kharlan. You'll now assume control of Daryun in the southwest. Clear out the Defense Captains to open the checkpoint, then hurry northeast and eliminate the Elite Guard Captains and the Defense Captain to breach the gates. Charge north and leap into the valley to save Arslan, who will withdraw from the battlefield. Your final objective is to defeat Kharlan, who has thick armor and a huge number of troops to assist him. Clear out some of the peons, then use your Unique Skill to damage his armor by hurling him into the nearby trees. If you have the Battle Spear's Fire art (which you should by now), set Kharlan on fire and juggle him to deplete his health rapidly. 6. Encounter with Silver Mask [B106] Character: Daryun Mission: Defeat Silver Mask! Defeat Conditions: Daryun is defeated. Recipe Book: Break a specific blockade. Limited Skill Card: 30 CHAIN in 1 min. This battle is a duel between Daryun and Silver Mask, who claims responsibility for killing Vahriz. You have a second weapon in this battle, so make liberal use of Chain Strikes to break Silver Mask's armor. He'll become enraged at half health, at which point his energy waves will rip you to shreds if you don't evade and counter them. You can also hide behind the pillars and use your Unique Skill to stab through them and hit Silver Mask as he approaches, which will instantly break his armor and allow you to wail on him while he's dazed. 7. The Villagers' Plight [B107] Character: Arslan Mission: Rescue the village from the Lusitanian soldiers! Defeat Conditions: Arslan is defeated or 3 or more Villagers are defeated. Recipe Book: Save all the villagers. Limited Skill Card: 250 K.O.s in 2 mins. Your main goal in this battle is to protect the peasants. Do so by pummeling the four Privates who attack you at the outset, then follow the path to the south and pulverize the three Privates along the way. This will save all but one of the Villagers, and you can save the last one by heading to the northeast part of the Central Square and pounding the two Privates you meet there. Head toward the southeast, cutting down the three Privates you meet along the way, then loop around to the north and west and strike down the last two. Once all of the Villagers are safe in the Central Square, rendezvous with the group in the south to collect your reward. Repel the Lusitanian Private who appears next to you; two more will appear in the west and two more in the south while you're dealing with him. Defeat them all, and four more Privates will appear: two in the west, one in the north, and one in the south. Hunt them down and destroy them, and victory is yours. 8. Escape to Kashan [B108] Character: Gieve, Daryun, Arslan Mission: Escape from the Lusitanian forces! Bring reinforcements to Arslan! Head toward Kashan Fortress! Defeat Conditions: Either Arslan or Narsus is defeated. Either Arslan or Daryun is defeated, or the reinforcements are defeated. Either Arslan or Narsus is defeated. Recipe Book: Defeat all the messengers. Limited Skill Card: 10,000 CHAIN. You have a new weapon in this battle, and you'll also start on horseback. Use your tools well as you charge west, strike down the Messenger, and pound the Gatekeeper to secure a path for Arslan and his entourage. Stop the Messenger behind it from escaping, then climb to the top of the plateau and dispatch the Archer Captains to stop their ambush. Defeat the Gatekeeper to break through the second checkpoint, defeat another Messenger, and follow the path as it loops around to the east, north, and west. When you reach the next gate, you'll take control of Daryun in the northeast. Head south, and boulders will fall and cut you off from the reinforcement troops. Proceed west, kill the Defense Captain before he escapes, then climb to the top of the plateau and ambush the Gatekeeper to the north. Head east and skewer the General to regroup with your troops, then head to the top of the plateau to the west, trigger a Mardan Rush, and use fire arrows to burn through the barrier to the south. Head southeast and jump down to assist Arslan. You'll be in control of Arslan now. Use the Rush Zone to break through the gate, then strike down the Assault Captain to clear the checkpoint. Use another Mardan Rush to break through both the enemy lines and another gate, then take down the General to make good your escape. 9. The Schemes of Hodir [B109] Character: Elam, Arslan, Daryun Mission: Destroy the archer unit's bows and arrows at the barracks! Defeat Hodir! Defeat Conditions: Elam is defeated or the plan fails. Either Arslan or Narsus is defeated. Recipe Book: Climb to the kind of high spot that Elam would love. Limited Skill Card: 20 K.O.s in 2 mins. From your starting position, head northwest to the archers' barracks. Shoot the escaping Messenger and the Supply Captains, destroy the four crates, then head west and veer south to start a fire. While Hodir's men are putting it out, use your Unique Skill to slip through the secret passage, then blast through the Defense Captain who attacks you on your way to the storeroom. Defeat the next three who appear afterward, then slip into the storeroom and destroy the two crates to make Narsus' plan succeed. After watching a cutscene, you'll take control of Arslan. Defeat the four Defense Captains near your starting position, as well as the next two waves of reinforcements that appear. When the gates open, follow the southernmost path to the west and exterminate the Elite Guard Captain. Hodir's archers will realize that their bow strings have been cut, and Hodir will withdraw. You'll assume control of Daryun, who now has his third weapon. Knock out enemy troops until a Rush Zone appears, then trigger Mardan Rushes to break through the gate and the barrier. Kill the Elite Guard and use the lever to open the gate, which will allow you to reach Hodir. Use your bow to weaken his armor, then use Chain Strikes and combos with your sword and spear to deplete his health. He'll enrage at half health, so be extra cautious when he does. 10. The Reluctant Guardian [B110] Character: Gieve Mission: Break through the Lusitanian forces! Defeat Conditions: Either Arslan or Gieve is defeated. Recipe Book: Have Arslan move up quickly and close off the enemy advance. Limited Skill Card: K.O. all ambushers in 5 mins. If any of the Messengers escape, Generals will appear and search for Arslan, so defeating any Messengers you see should be your top priority. Do so as you head south from your starting position and use a Mardan Rush to break through the barrier, then stay close to Arslan and cut down every enemy in your path as you advance east. There will be many archers in your path, so stay alert. The Lusitanian troops will close off the southeast exit as you approach it, so you'll have to escape to the north instead. Slice through the Defense Captains, Generals, and any interposing troops under their command, making sure that Arslan doesn't take too much of a beating. Veer west, fight your way past the waves of Generals and Assault Captains that appear by the exit, and you're as good as done. 11. Rescue of Alfarid [B111] Character: Narsus Mission: Head toward the Escape Point with Alfarid. Defeat Conditions: Either Narsus or Alfarid is defeated. Recipe Book: Climb the cliff and then quickly advance. Limited Skill Card: 300 K.O.s in 2 mins. Silver Mask is back, and you've got a shiny new sword to introduce him to as you take control of Narsus. Protect Alfarid from the two Generals, then attack Silver Mask until the rockslide occurs. When the gates open, flee south and turn east when you're forced to, then fight off the Defense Captain and the three Assault Captains while Alfarid prepares her fire arrow. Two more waves of Assault Captains will appear after you repel the first one; defeat them as well, and Alfarid will create a path to the top of the cliff. Climb up, fight the General, and follow the shortest available path to the northeast road. Silver Mask will be waiting for you there, along with some Generals and Defense Captains. Clear out his lackeys first, then focus on him. As usual, be careful when he becomes enraged. 12. Across Enemy Lines [B112] Character: Farangis Mission: Break through the Lusitanian forces! Defeat Conditions: Either Daryun or Farangis is defeated. Recipe Book: Quickly defeat the enemy located in a specific tower. Limited Skill Card: 500 K.O.s in 5 mins. Your first step to victory here is to defeat Kharlan's son Zandeh, who is determined to avenge his father. Clear out some of the archers around him, then use your arrows to perforate his armor and help Daryun beat him down. When the Lusitanian forces clear the blockade, avoid their charge and advance northeast toward the Rush Zone, saving as many Cavalry Lieutenants as you can from the Generals along the way. Zandeh and Arzang will appear in the southeast once you break through the barrier, and they can be quite a troublesome team. Take care of the surrounding peons and Arzang first, using dodge rolls to avoid getting grabbed by him when he uses his magic to travel through the ground. Zandeh will enrage at half health, but timely dodge rolls and volleys of arrows will bring him down. 13. Reunion at Peshawar [B113] Character: Daryun, Kishward, Arslan Mission: Head toward Peshawar Fortress! Protect your allies from the Lusitanian forces! Defeat the Lusitanian forces! Defeat Conditions: An allied officer is defeated. Recipe Book: Quickly cross the river and defeat the messenger. Limited Skill Card: K.O. north officer in 1 min. Smash through the two barricades as you head south, fighting off any enemies who surround your allies. Once you reach the garrison in the southeast, they'll raise the drawbridge and separate you from Elam and Gieve. Defeat the two Generals and make your way west with Arslan and Farangis until the cutscene triggers. After the cutscene, you'll assume control of Kishward. Defeat the five Generals to make a Rush Zone appear, then use a Mardan Rush to break through the enemy's shield wall. Cross the river and kill the Messenger in the northeast, then follow the path south to regroup with Elam and Gieve and help them fend off the enemy Generals. Next, you'll gain control of Arslan. Defeat the attacking Zandeh, using the Rush Zone if you choose, and victory will be yours. C. Story Mode - Second Half [SMP2] 1. Encounter with Hilmes [B201] Character: Arslan Mission: Defeat Hilmes! Defeat Conditions: Arslan is defeated. Recipe Book: Break a specific blockade. Limited Skill Card: 30 CHAIN in 1 min. You'll take control of Daryun, who starts in the northwest. Follow the winding path to the east, trying not to get tied up fighting the peons, then turn south and charge toward Pradalata. Clear out the archers around him, then use your standard dueling tactics to defeat him. 4. Skirmish at Gujarat Fortress [B204] Character: Daryun Mission: Defeat Pulakeshin! Head northwest and drive off the General to stop the catapults from firing, using the Rush Zone if you want. Pulakeshin and his forces will launch an all-out attack; hurry south to break his charge, then strike him down to finish the battle. 5. Recipe Book: Defeat a specific Unit that appears along with Gadhevi. Limited Skill Card: 300 K.O.s in 3 mins. Slice up the two Generals to blunt the enemy's offensive and trigger a cutscene in which the enemy's war elephants appear. After the cutscene, you'll assume control of Daryun. Charge the elephants and attack them from horseback to dismount the War Elephant Captains, and keep them distracted for 3 minutes while Elam readies the ballistae. The elephants will panic when he fires on them, and one of them will charge through the castle wall in the west. Charge through the hole it makes and defeat the Elite Guard Captain to close off the southern entry point, then head east to engage Gandhevi. Knock him off his war elephant, then clear out the surrounding peons so you can fight him one-on-one. He's not a terribly strong opponent, but use caution when he enrages. 7. Duel before the Gods [B207] Character: Daryun, Arslan Mission: Defeat Bahadur! Escape from the castle! Defeat Conditions: Rajendra or Rajendra's soldiers defending the gates are defeated. Recipe Book: Defeat a specific Archer Unit during your escape. Limited Skill Card: 200 K.O.s in 5 mins. You and your opponent each have some jackals to aid you in this duel. Kill Bahadur's jackals first, then shoot him full full of arrows to break his armor and hit him with everything you've got while he's dazed. If he gets distracted by your jackals, use the opportunity to shoot him without fear of reprisal. As long as you keep him at medium to long range while he's armored, he takes little more than time to defeat. Gandhevi, unfortunately, doesn't want to accept the results of the duel, and you'll control Arslan once it ends. Fight your way past Gandhevi, the General, and the Gatekeeper as you proceed southeast, then climb the stairs and advance north along the wall. Leap down and slaughter the Generals in the northeast, then climb to the top of the wall to continue your westward advance when the gates shut. Two more Generals will show up in the east; catch them and kill them as they approach their destination, and do the same to the next wave of reinforcements as well. The General in the southeast will order an all-out attack; meet him head-on and slice him into ribbons. Shortly after defeating the General, you'll gain control of Arslan. Rajendra will try to retreat once he realizes his plans have been foiled; cut him off and cut him down before he can escape, cutting apart as many pesky peons as necessary before focusing your attention on him. 9. Dispatch the second Thief Leader, then head for the northeast room and eliminate a third one, who will fight you alongside a Sorcerer. Drive him off, too. You'll switch to Gieve for the final fight with the Sorcerer. Standard dueling tactics will serve you well here: use the bow when he's armored and go all-out on him when his armor breaks. Use the torches to speed things up, and watch out for the Thieves who come to assist him when he's down to half health. 11. Subjugation of Chasoom Fortress [B211] Character: Isfan, Tus, Daryun Mission: Defeat the vanguard unit! Defeat Clemence! Defeat Conditions: Tus is defeated or Clemence retreats into the castle. Recipe Book: Reach the Intercept Point with Balhai still alive. Limited Skill Card: K.O. Scout in 2 mins. You get to use a couple of new recruits in this battle. As Isfan, head west and trigger a Mardan Rush to greet the General before the Scout reaches him, then pummel him into oblivion. You'll then gain control of Tus, with whom you'll need to hurry west to assist Isfan and Zaravant against an enemy onslaught. Gut the Gatekeeper you meet along the way, then proceed northwest and cut down the two Generals to stop the catapults from firing and lure Clemence out of the fortress. You'll gain control of Daryun for the last leg of the battle. Break through the General and the two Assault Captains in front of the castle, as well as the two waves of reinforcements that arrive. There will be lots of archers around, so make a point of killing them first. When the gates open, charge west and defeat the Defense Captains, then get to the intercept point in the southwest as quickly as you can. Head southeast to catch Clemence in a pincer attack, then crush him to seize the fortress. 12. Skirmish at the Keep of Saint Emmanuel [B212] Character: Arslan, Zaravant Mission: Advance toward the Keep of Saint Emmanuel! Enter the Keep of Saint Emmanuel from the Main Gate! Defeat Conditions: Arslan is defeated. Either Arslan or Zaravant is defeated, or the plan fails. Recipe Book: Defeat the Supply Unit before they escape. Limited Skill Card: 250 K.O.s. Follow the winding path to the south, hacking through the two Defense Captains you meet. Use a Mardan Rush to break through the shield wall in front of the keep, then go after the three Assault Captains amidst the rain of arrows and rocks. Next, you'll assume control of Zaravant. Cut down the Gatekeepers who bar your path to the fleeing Messengers, both of whom you should silence as soon as you catch up to them. When you reach the field to the southwest of the keep, chase down and kill the Supply Captain before he escapes, then jump off the plateau and smash through the General and Defense Captains inside the castle to secure the main gate. The enemy troops in the west will double back to assist their allies; charge out to meet them and slay the General to end the battle. 13. Demolish the two Defense Captains to disable the traps, then proceed east and dispatch another Defense Captain to enter the Central Square. Clear out the General, Gatekeeper, and two Defense Captains, then use a Mardan Rush to destroy the catapults. When you get the message that Arslan is in danger, follow the path that leads north and east to reach him, slicing your way past Zandeh when he appears to engage you. Watch the cutscene, then prepare to fight Étoile. She's quicker than Zandeh, and just like him, she'll enrage at half health, but you and your allies should be able to take her down without much trouble. After Étoile is defeated and allowed to flee, you'll take control of Kubard. Charge north and loop around to the west and south to reach the front of the castle, where you'll face three Generals and some Sorcerers. After dealing with the Generals, charge into the castle and use both your blade and your new bow to overcome Sam, who enrages at half health. Zandeh will attack you again as you enter the keep; fight your way past him, then watch the short cutscene. Finally, you'll take control of Arslan. Step outside, and you'll engage Hilmes. Watch out for his energy waves as you chip away at his armor, and be ready for him to enrage at half health. His attacks will come hard and fast, so dodge them skillfully and counter when you have an opening. Knock him into the flames from Étoile's arrows to speed things up, but don't rely on them too much - she'll run out when he's down to about 25% health, and the rest will be up to you. Once Hilmes falls, victory is yours. Enjoy the ending! D. Questions & Answers [QUAN] Q: Why an Arslan: The Warriors of Legend FAQ? A: It hadn't been done yet, and I enjoyed playing through the game. Q: You rendered the characters' names incorrectly! Don't you know anything about Persian orthography? A: Sorry. The macrons were causing formatting issues, so I had to remove them. The purists already know how the characters' names are supposed to be written, and it makes the FAQ easier for everyone else to read. Q: Should I play this game? A: If you like Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Warriors Orochi, or similar types of games, then you'll probably like this one. If not, you can pass on it. Q: I keep dying/can't kill anyone! What should I do? A: Change your characters' Skill Card and weapon setups, or fight some battles in Free Mode to gain experience and weapon proficiency. If you're stuck on one of the "boss" fights, roll out of the way when you see your enemy preparing to attack, then counterattack while he or she is slowed. Q: I fulfilled the conditions to get one of the Limited Skill Cards, but it didn't appear! What gives? A: Make sure that you're playing on Hard or Extreme difficulty. They won't appear on Easy or Normal difficulty. Q: Have you tried out any of the DLC for this game? A: No, and I don't intend to. Q: Have you read or watched The Heroic Legend of Arslan? A: No, but playing the game piqued my interest in it. Q: Your FAQ sucks! I've crapped out better FAQs than this! A: As soon as you find a way to upload excrement, you should post your wondrous creation for all to see. Q: I posted my FAQ, and everyone I know thinks it's better than yours! Your FAQ really DOES suck! A: Congratulations! I am in awe of your superior FAQ-writing skills! Now go away. Q: This is the best FAQ I've ever read! You're a genius and a god among men, and I want to know more about you so that I can immortalize you! A: Yeah, I get that a lot. My contact info's listed below. Q: <insert some question that has nothing to do with Arslan or the FAQ here> A: See the second sentence of my previous answer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VII.
