Beginner Tips and Tricks

Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s, long before the books. The game places you in the world of Harry Potter as a wizard-in-training, tasked with rediscovering ancient magic, stopping a goblin rebellion and uncovering the secrets of the wizarding world. Listed below are several Beginner Tips and Tricks which will help you progress.

Choosing your House

Once the prologue has completed your first decision is deciding which of the four houses - Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, or Gryffindor you want to join. It doesn't really matter which one you pick as all the houses are fairly equal, with each having the same number of missions, side quests, spells and bonuses. None of the houses will give you more content or a gameplay advantage, the house you belong to basically determines the colors of some outfits and gives you access to your house's common room. Each house however does have one exclusive quest which you can tackle during the early stages of the game.

Unlock Spells

In Hogwarts Legacy there are 34 spells (skills) in total that can be unlocked over the course of the game. Each of the spells is different, there are those that can deal massive damage or control enemies, and others that are required in order to complete puzzles. You can equip four spells to one skill set and providing a spell isn't on cooldown to prevent you from continuously spamming an ability you can cast it whenever you want. To change a spell at any time during the game you simply have to press the right D-pad on consoles or tap 'T' on your keyboard if you are playing on PC. You will gain spells naturally as you progress in the game completing the side missions assigned by teachers. Reaching Level 5 will unlock two more spell sets. Learn How to Fly

After you complete the Jackdaw's Rest main mission the Flying Class main mission located on the lawn at the Bell Tower Wing of Howgwarts will become unlocked. Once you have access to this mission you will be able to mount your broom and fly with it. To mount your broom you press L1 + Circle on PlayStation, LB + B on Xbox, and '3' on your keyboard if you are playing on PC. Your broom has two different forms and controls to maneuver it. You can unequip the broom at any time, and it is important to remember that your character cannot sustain fall damage.

Sell and Upgrade your Gear

Gear in Hogwarts Legacy can be one of five different colors. The weakest gear being black while the strongest is orange, the Legendary gear. As you play through the game the gear you get from missions, storefronts, chests, and fights will become progressively more powerful. It is important that you continuously replace your gear with the stronger options you pick up. The discarded gear you accumulate that you no longer need can be sold to vendors at shops in Hogsmeade, which you can easily fast-travel to. You can transmogrify each piece of gear you collect into a style you have already unlocked. This is done at the 'Gear' menu by hovering over the piece you want to change and clicking 'Customize the Appearance'.

Claim your Free Rewards

Challenges in Hogwarts Legacy unlocks things like exclusive transmogrified cosmetics, ability upgrades, and increased storage. There are five unique challenges you can undergo to obtain these rewards. These are Combat, Exploration, Quests, Field Guide Pages, and Room of Requirement. In order to complete challenges you need to complete tasks in a tier format. After completing a tier, you will be given the option to unlock your reward. Challenges include random activities like slaying goblins and exploring the campus. The game helps you keep track of the challenges you complete by placing an exclamation mark over the icon. Don't forget about Challenges as it is an easy way to get free rewards.
