Here is a collection of our best hints and tips for the playing the game that we have learned from playing the game ourselves.
1) Upgrade Your Cards
As with any game of this nature you want to have the most powerful deck as possible. So you certainly want to upgrade any cards in your deck whenever you have the chance.
2) Learn what to counter with
Certain cards are great against other cards or your enemy's towers. Some cards are not! So learn what works best against what you opponent is throwing at you as soon as possible!
Take for example arrows, these are great against a pack of troops, but don't do much against a tower.
3) Get your elixir to 10 before launching an attack.
You really want to have your elixir maxed out to 10 before you launch an attack, that way you will be able to throw more troops into the melee at the same time.
4) Deploy your troops so they go into the enemy's area at the same time.
You don't really want your troops to stream into the enemy's area at different times, you should really try to place your units so that they all reach the enemy at the same time.
For example, you may want to deploy the slow moving giant at the back behind your towers, that will deplete your elixir, by the time he gets near the enemy your elixir will be 10 again and you should then deploy more troops about where the giant has ended up.
5) Defend first sometimes
If you are having trouble timing your attacks, or are just getting countered all the time, try to let your opponent throw the first card, then counter their attack and move on from there.
6) Get your Free Chests and Crown Chests
These are available at set time periods, and are handy to have for extra cards.
7) Kill the Giant!
This is more of a beginner tip - If you think you've won the game by killing one tower and the time is running and you can can just leave that Giant that is heading toward's your king's tower - think again! He is one heavy tank - send some troops to kill him, because left alone, he is a clear tower killer.
8) Don't spend your gems
I have started two games on Clash Royale. One where I have spent money on gems and used all of the free ones given to me. And another where I have not spent a dime. You know which one is in the better shape? The one where I have spent no money. Unfortunately as you progress in the game the need for more cash to upgrade your cards increases. For example a level seven card upgrade usually costs 1,000 coins. So if you start to spend on gems to get coins you'll probably never have enough and continue to have to keep purchasing.
A better course of action is to not buy gems, and not spend the free gems that are given to you - except for converting those gems into cash for upgrades of your cards. As you progress through the game and your arena level increases the chests you get are usually better stocked with cash and cards anyway. But don't rush or buy your way through the initial levels as there are a few important cards to be had in those early arenas.
