Darksiders Genesis is an action RPG that is a spin-off prequel game in the Darksiders series. The game takes place at the beginning of Darksiders lore, centuries upon centuries before the apocalyptic events of the first game abd introduces the fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse, Strife, as the protagonist. Strife can also team up with his brother, War and together they make their way through hordes of demons, angels, and everything in-between on their way to Hell to find, and take down the powerful demon king Lucifer, who has been disturbing the balance by bestowing various demons in hell with immense power. Switch Between Strife and War
Make sure you switch between Strife and War in Darksiders Genesis to suit your situation, this mechanic is enabled by pressing LB and A on your Xbox One controller. Strife is able to quickly attack opponents from range using his pistols and is a better choice for a tactical approach while if you prefer your action up close use War who has fast and aggressive melee attacks.
Explore Everywhere for Collectible Items
It is important that you explore the map for the collectible items that are scattered throughout Darksiders Genesis as they are essential for upgrading, making money and unlocking Stife and War's full potential. Collectibles include Small Chests, Item Chests, Limbo Chests, Summoning Stones, and Trickster Keys to unlock special locked doors.
Gathering Collectibles
On your first playthrough of Darksiders Genesis you will be able to collect almost everything through the first few levels. Once you start to come across later-game upgrades for Strife and War or an item that is out of reach behind locked doors you will have to return later to collect it when you have the appropriate gear.
Find the Treasure Maps
There is a hidden Treasure Map in each area of Darksiders Genesis which once you find will make gathering collectible objects such as Boatman's Coins and Trickster Keys easier as their location will be added to your map.
Use Executions to get Health and Wrath Orbs
The way in which you kill enemies determines which type of Wraith Orbs you will obtain. You will be able to perform an Execution when the enemy's health is low by pressing B on your controller. A regular kill will yeild (blue) Souls which is the currency of Darksiders Genesis while an Execution will produce (green) Health and (yellow) Wrath Orbs from enemies, and occassionally (blue) Souls. It will also begin an animation during which you will be invincible
Replay Levels for Bonus Rewards
Chests from objectives you have already completed will contain Souls when you play the level again. Most of the locations you revisit won't be as challenging as before and the rewards you get will help you to develop your character and equipment to make them more formidable.
Assign your Creature Cores
Creature Cores in Darksiders Genesis are special items that are dropped by enemies, or purchased from Vulgram. They then need to be slotted into nodes at the 'Creature Cores' menu so that they make Strife and War more powerful in a variety of ways. The game will not prompt you about applying Creature Cores so make sure you don't leave any you pick up languishing in your inventory. You will be able to open the 'Creature Core' menu to slot and rearrange Creature Cores whenever you want. Check out our Creature Cores Guide to find out everything you need to know about them in Darksiders Genesis.
Complete Quests and Side Missions
Focus on completing the various quests and their additional missions as doing so will enable you to earn a substantial amount of Souls and Boatmans Coins as rewards. A list of quests can be accessed on the main menu by selecting the 'Quests' option and you can always check to see what side missions are available by selecting the 'Side Mission' menu when you enter a new level. Check out our Quests and Missions Guide to find out what rewards you can earn by completing them.
Play with a Friend
Consider playing with a friend because although the cooperation mode will increase the number and difficulty of opponents you will find it will also be easier to fight enemies and escape from dangerous situations and make discovering secrets easier.
