If your fighting style is predictable you will be easy prey for an experienced opponent who will know exactly when to punish you. It is therefore important that you try and make your fighting style as random as possible in order to stop opponents from picking up on any pattern and knowing when to counter-attack. The best strategy is to learn a few combinations really well and alternate between them at random.
Holds like any other move in Dead or Alive 6 have a specific window of activation, so it is crucial that you time them correctly if you want to pull them off successfully. If you simply mash the hold button your opponent will be able to easily stagger their moves in such a way that they can counter-hit you in your hold's recovery frames which is something you want to avoid happening at all costs as the damage you receive will eventually kill you.
It is important to take into account the weight of characters as gravity will affect them in different ways. The lighter a character is the longer you will be able to hit them with launcher combinations whereas heavier characters will only allow you a shorter string of moves as they fall faster. This means it is more difficult to punish the bigger slower characters using launchers. It is therefore recommended that you have combinations at your disposal that work regardless of the weight of your opponent.
Just pummeling your opponent until you deplete their stun bar will not do much damage. Look to use a launcher when their stun bar has almost run out to do the most damage.
A launcher is a move that knocks the opponent you are fighting up into the air, ready to be hit by further strikes. When putting together a sequence of moves look for ones that can take advantage of the environment or put your opponent into a vulnerable hit-state and always look to make sure that the ender your character uses in the combination is a move that will do the most damage. Below is a basic combo structure:
- Stunning Starter
- Filler string
- Launcher
- Filler String
- Ender
