A more recent addition to the things that you can do in AC Pocket Camp is the "Gardening" activity. An update to the game, now enable players to tend to their very own garden - right inside their camp site. This "Gardening Activity" includes a lot of new stuff to do in the game including planting, harvesting, cross-pollenating (to earn the different variants of seeds and flowers), and even doing watering chores for your friends.
To get you started, simple go to the garden plot located to the east most part of your Campsite (right deside your camper van). When you get there the first time, Isabelle will introduce you to Lloid which is the NPC that would generally discuss the gardening mechanics. He will also automatically guide you through the interactice step-by-step tutorial. The crash course is very intuitive, self-explaining, and will relatively expound on the basics of each process.
Planting Your First Flowers
Lloid will initially give you seeds and gardening-related items prior to asking you to participate in the interactive tutorial. When it starts, you'll be asked to tap on any empty slot flower bed (oval-shaped dirt) - which will ask for your confirmation if you want to plant seeds. Upon confirmation, a menu on the screen will pop-up and ask you which type of seed to plant. Given that you currently only have one type of seed to plant, you'll of course plant what LLoid gave you. The activity will have to ask you to plant the same seed several empty slot to familiarize you with the basics of planting.
Cutting on Harvest Time
Similar to how you cut the time on harvesting fruits in the game, you can use fertilizer to cut the wait time until your flowers are ready for harvest. Each unit of fertilizer that is used, will generally decrease the overall wait-time by 30 minutes. While a few sample of this fertilizer will be given to you by Lliod on your starter pack, upon exhausting your stock, you'll generally have to purchase additional units via IAPs (a special gardening pack is sold for $0.99).
Since you are still on the tutorial, once you've used your fertilizer, your flower would automatically be ready for harvest. This time, when you tap on it, you’ll be given the option to either harvest the flower or use it to cross-pollinate. To earn more seeds and maximize the garden, you might want to use everything (or at least the remainder of your first grow) for cross-pollenating. Cross-pollenating in the game will generally earn you a new batch to plant, and even new variants of seeds.
In order to successfully cross-pollenate, you must have at least 1 (harvested) flower in your inventory -- which will enable a "cross-pollinate" option. When you pick this option, you'll earn your new batch of seeds.
On the other hand, if you choose to keep the harvested flowers instead, you have to option to trade them for other items by speaking with Lloid (inside the garden). The last leg of the tutorial will cover a so-called "Flower Exchange" -- which is very similar to the exchange mechanics (of items you earn) in Shovelstrike Quarry. The rarer the Flower is, the better item is traded in exchange for it. Much of the things you'll receive though are ornamental items to decorate you camp with like pots of flowers, stuffed toys, and what not.
Taking care of your flowers the normal way...
Upon successfully attending the gardening crash course, you'd definitely want to try maximizing your garden this time and filling it up with seeds. Although as you'd soon realize, you do not have enough fertilizer to keep your pace expanding your garden's growth. So, you'll succumb to the fact that you'll have to grow it the normal way first (unless you want to purchase additional fertilizer via IAP).
You'll notice that there is also a watering pail at the corner of your garden. When you approach this pail, it will prompt you to a question whether you'd like to water your plants. However, your plants does not exactly tell you they need to get watered. Instead, you'll have to pay attention to color of the soil. Lighter colored soil means it needs watering. Although it wouldn't really kill the plant if it is not watered, you'd only prolong the wait time you need until you can harvest the flower.
When this update of the game was release, you'd also notice something new when you try to visit or check on a friend. When you try to go to your list, there is this new button to let you visit their garden instead. Upon selecting this option, you'll be sent to his/her garden and have the freedom to help tend his/her garden. The benefit of doing this is that you may gain new seeds by simply cross-pollenating your harvested flowers with his/hers. Additionally, the gardening system enhances the sense of interactivity with other players, which would nonetheless benefit both players.
