General Tips

Attacking can be a crucial part of Backyard Monsters. If you really want to excel, you will need to combat other players and stay on the offensive. This will reward you with important resources by farming other players Yards and can provide a huge boost to your own economy.

Conversely, if you are able to concentrate on upgrading all of your buildings (see our guide to the game's buildings and the relative Hit Points assigned to them) so that they are as strong as possible, you will become an insurmountable target for your potential enemies. With a successful defensive infrastructure, you could go through the entirety of Backyard Monsters without ever attacking another player. Offensive buildings such as the Map Room, Flinger, Yard Planner, Monster Lockers, and Monster Hatcheries are not strictly necessary in getting yourself set up. Instead, you can focus on defenses like Towers and Blocks. Then, once you are able to defend yourself with ease, you can build up your armies and wipe the enemy off the map.

Upgrade the Town Hall:

A strong tactic in general for succeeding at Backyard Monsters is to focus on upgrading your Town Hall as fast as you can. If you can do as much of this as possible while your Yard is still under Protection, you will have an advantage over other players. Other buildings to concentrate on are Silos and Resource Gatherers. You should max out the capacity of these depending on the level of your town hall. This will allow you to collect as many resources as possible and avoid wasting any. All your Silos and Resource Gatherers can be placed around the Town Hall. They are important structures that you should try to protect. Walls and Towers can surround these and then you can have your less-important things on the outside.

HP:

You should pay careful attention to the HP of your buildings. This obviously indicates how much damage a certain structure can take before it will be destroyed, but is also important in planning which buildings to use to distract enemy attacks, and where to focus your defences.
