Skills play a major role in the game’s combat. The skills available for a unit’s disposal is as important as knowing the weapon triangle system. Since skills are directly learned from Emblems through Skill Inheritance, knowing how to reliably farm SP (Skill Points) as early as possible is something that all players should be familiar with. In our SP Farming Guide Guide, we will discuss how this feature works and what skills to consider early on.
Fire Emblem Engage is a latest installation for the critically-acclaimed Fire Emblem series, offering a fresh approach to the tried-and tested tactical, turn-based JRPG formula fans have seen in recent years. Players are treated with the return of the Triangle System, weapons with no durability, and of course, the fresh new Emblem/Bond Ring mechanic.

As mentioned above, skills are only learned via Skill Inheritance (please refer to our dedicated page for more information) and you have to use Skill Points (SP) to “purchase” these skills. SP is earned individually by units, and the only way to do so is by participating in combat. There seems to be no way of obtaining SP for reserve units.
More importantly, only units equipped with Emblem Rings and Bond Rings can earn EXP. That’s why it’s very important to have some spare bond rings available and give them to your new units, even if you’re not planning to use them immediately.
The straightforward method of earning SP is through combat. Whenever a unit damages an enemy or defeats one, they’ll earn a corresponding amount of SP. Defeating enemies or using sync attacks yields more SP of course, and a unit can still earn SP even while defending (getting attacked).
Additionally, using staff abilities like Heal, Obstruct, Rescue, etc provides considerable SP as well so sometimes, healing allies with miniscule damage is a good course of action for staff users, especially if the alternative is just waiting and ending the turn.
Overworld skirmishes are quite common. These serve as free battles for your party to earn EXP, SP, build bond and relationship support, and collect loot. Silver Corrupted Enemies are special enemies that award more SP when defeated. When you find an encounter with Silver Corrupted on it, it’s ideal to participate in that skirmish and earn that extra SP. The donation level in the region will increase the likelihood of these enemies from spawning so make sure to donate whenever you can to increase the region’s donation level and their spawn rate.
After every battle, regardless if it’s a major story battle or normal skirmish, you should always drop by and do some Standard training sessions in the Arena. Each training session will award you with a small amount of SP regardless if your chosen character wins or loses the training match. After using up all training sessions, clear another battle again in the overworld to refresh the session count. Rinse and repeat.
This ability requires you to complete Chapter 6: The Stolen Ring and obtain the Emblem Micaiah. Her Engage ability “Great Sacrifice” allows her ring’s wearer to heal all allies in the entire map to full HP while dropping the user’s HP to 1. Using this ability gives the user an immense amount of SP, depending on the number of allies healed (even if they have miniscule damage). In fact, this seems to be the most efficient method of earning SP in the game as of this writing. The only downside is that this is an Engage ability so it can’t be inherited. This means you need to swap Micaiah’s ring to individual allies which you want to boost SP on.
You can also use this ability only once per Engage activation so after reverting back to normal form, as long as you recharge your Engage meter, you’ll be able to activate this again. (Take advantage of the blue recharge tiles on some of the maps) Furthermore, if you have allies that can heal Micaiah’s user, that’s also a great way of earning additional SP for them since staff abilities generate a considerable amount of SP.
This option requires purchasing the Expansion Pass since Tiki is part of the first DLC. This is also an Engage ability where Tiki provides a Revival Stone to an ally, effective for the current battle. Tiki’s wearer also gains a lot of SP from using this ability though not as much as Micaiah’s Great Sacrifice ability.
