Bring the Correct Gear
It is vital before you load up into a map that you make sure you have the correct weapons and consumables for the boss you will encounter there. For example, against the Butcher you will need explosives and shotguns and when you take on the very mobile spider you will need lever action rifles and fast firing pistols. Also a poison Antidote to counter the Spider's primary attack of spitting a cloud of venom.
Search the Environment
Always keep an eye out for better weapons, tools, and consumables when you search the environment. Weapons can also be looted from dead Hunters. Always check the weapons you find as some also have additional damage effects, like bleeding, poison and fire.
Triggering Sounds
In Hunt: Showdown not triggering sounds as you progress through the swampland is as important as item management and markmanship when it comes to survival as it will alerts the enemy to your general vincinity if you trigger them. For example, a flock of crows will scatter if you run by them, a dying horse may neigh when you get close, and gunshots will echo out.
Listen for Sounds
It is important that you know what types of sounds to listen for and learn how to pinpoint the direction from where it is coming from. These sounds include footsteps, birds flying, horses neighing, doors opening, generators starting, and different types of monster sounds.
Avoid the Undead
Although you can get a lot of points by slaying the different versions of the AI undead you come across while exploring the Louisiana swampland it is more beneficial if you try and avoid them whenever possible as the sound you make fighting them will cause unneeded attention from other players.
Hives
Take out Hives from far away. Their swarms will otherwise poison you, dealing hefty damage and disorienting you. You can avoid this happening if you take an Antidote Shot at the beginning of the match as this makes you immune to their poison for a very long time.
