Save file corrupted

Question asked by SgtPaccko on
Last Modified:

Save file corrupted

I have recently started playing Pokemon Crystal again but every time I save my game and come back a few hours later, the message "This saved game file has been corrupted" appears when I click on Continue..
Any suggestions on what might be the problem?

I had this same problem and actually fixed it today. You have to open the cartridge and replace the battery. You can buy a special tool from nintendorepairshop.com or use some tiny pliers. The tool is only 6 bucks and I got it in 2 days, it's much easier. All you have to do is use and x-acto knife and pry the little welds from the arms on each side of the batter, replace it, then use two little pieces of electric tape to secure the arms back to the battery. Make sure you put it back in the right way. And it takes a cr2025 battery. Be carefull not to break the arms when your prying them off just take your time.

You need to replace the battery. There are two ways, soldering, or tape. Tape way is easier. The type of tape you use doesn't matter. Go with clear tape for clear cartridges. There are multiple youtube videos for this. I used a small flathead to pry the battery loose. Safer than a blade for sure.

somehow maybe glitch or something

Guest answered:

Fixing your game is POSSIBLE without removing whatnot. 6 years ago (I was 8 then), I had the same problem. My friend from school fixed it. I'll update you how. It's still possible to retain your old saved file even if you made a new one. Oh, and I just realized, my game was fake.

How do you fix it?, it`s terrible, I tried to do the cloning glitch in stadium, for the celebi trick and, when i tried to play my game, it says "The save file is corrupted". Could you tell me if there´s a possibility to save data or i`ve lost everything?
Guest said: 29th Dec 2012 | REPORT
I don't get it. I've done the cloning glitch on both my gold and silver roms. I switched them off and turned them back on a few secs later to see if they were corrupted, but it didn't say anything.

I fell bad for you. My silver game corrupted when I had a shiny crobat, a shiny fearow, and a shiny nidoqueen. I super mad. I recommend you check your games battery and check or buy a knew game or just restart.

SupaFunkyPimpStankChicken(SFPSC) answered:

There is a way to recover lost data on a game boy color Pokemon game. NOTE: You cannot have started a new game. Turn on the game boy. You should see the "your file has corrupted" message. When you are at the new games/options menu, leave your game boy on for a long time (approx 8 hours) eventually, the screen should turn white, or bright pink. Turn it off and back on. Your data should be there again. I have tested this on my crystal, red, and silver. I don't know if it works for game boy advance or ds games, but if your game file corrupts frequently, you will have to do this frequently.

I have this problem with my Pokémon Gold: in my case the saved file doesn't dissapear, but goes corrupted and i need to create a new game. And the battery is new.
P.D: I play the game in N64 using Pokémon Stadium 2's GB Tower. I would be really happy if you answer me.

hello exactly what menu do i use i have tried it once i think i have done it wrong
Guest answered:

SupaFunkyPimpStankChicken(SFPSC),

That's probably because your trying to recharge the battery within the cartridge from the power of the battery within the GameBoy.
Eventually, this will only work for a short time because the battery already died or is dieing.

Hey guys, sorry to intrude, but i encountered this very problem today. I decided to play my Pokemon Silver today but when I click the "continue" option it says "Save file is corrupted!"
This was my very first game of the 2000s and i have some memories with the saved file. I was hoping if anyone could help me recover my lost saved file. All help is appreciated. I bought this game in the year 2000, have played it on and off ever since. Last time i played it seriously was 2010, i have about 243 Pokemon, so please, any help is welcome. Thank you.

Hey, sorry everyone but you have to restart, I know it sucks especially if you have shinies, but I lost my shiny Noctowl so I was bummed about that
