Seven shipwrecks are spread throughout the game, they are marked by sunken ships above the waters, which are very visible from the horizon. These contain several treasure chests, including a design plan that can be used for unlocking elite level upgrades for your ship. Completely exploring all shipwrecks is needed for a level-3 Abstergo Explorer challenge. Below are some tips for exploring the shipwrecks underwater:
.) You can always backtrack after exiting out an entire shipwreck. Since there are usually multiple paths entangled in them, you can return to each site if you have missed grabbing something. So don't worry about missing some items, just rinse and repeat.
.) Underwater diving bells and air barrels are your best friends here. These are strategically placed around the sites to provide temporary stops and give you a replenished source of fresh air. No matter happens, take some air whenever you see the bells and barrels. Never assume you are superhuman enough to go straight along the underwater path without getting drowned. After all, the air ducts are tailor-made to give you enough air at exactly the right time you are almost running out of air during an exploring session.
.) When you see the screens shake a little bit, that means a strong water current will be coming at you. This will damage you heavily so avoid the hit by swimming along the beams below or to any structure that will hold the current and protect you from the hit. This is similar to the Jackdaw getting hit by rogue waves above sea waters, so avoid them at all costs.
.) Never touch the school of jellyfishes blocking your path. They will instantly sting you and deal a considerable amount of damage if touched the slightest. Pretty as they are, they mostly serve as obstacles hindering your path instead of mere underwater fauna designs.
.) Similar to jellyfishes, avoid the sharks at all costs. They don't kill you in one hit from what you might expect, but they deal an insane amount of damage when you take their full hit. If you ever get attacked by one, follow the onscreen QTE to survive the onslaught and hide away to a safe haven immediately. Just wait for your health to regenerate before trying the path again, and this time make sure to time your move and avoid the carnivore.
