This will become available after Commander Goodman asks you to scout Grapp Keep. Return to the old house and listen to Datz and Zatz story about the mysterious ship they spotted. After the conversation, a new party chat will be available as well. (The Four Shieldbearer Warriors)
You have to sail east towards Grandship. From there, search the seas until you encounter thick fog. ( It seems the position of this fog changes. I spotted it northwest of Grandship while my girlfriend spotted it twice on different occasions to the northeast and southeast respectively) You’ll have the option to let the ghost ship pass or board it. Select the latter.

After the scene, head to the bow of the ship to get a hidden 2000pg. Now check the pile of junk behind the ship’s main mast to find a Viking Axe. Head to the wheel of the ship and talk to Barbarossa. After the conversation, you’ll have to defeat him in battle.

Barbarossa has a lot of damaging and at the same time debuffing moves. Defang and Shell Split lower your attack and defense respectively. Take note of the debuffs he inflicted in your party and heal up as necessary. Exploit his weakness in lightning attacks. Use Special Moves as necessary. It will help using default if he’s neutral or positive BPs then attack with your stored BPs when defaulting. If you have Thievery, you can Mug or Steal his War Axe – perfect for the asterisk you’ll get from him upon his defeat. |
After the battle, you’ll obtain the Pirate asterisk from him. You can now leave the ship with the ghost of Barbarossa now taking the helm of the ghost ship.
