Various activities like tasks, chores, Fishing, villager visits, etc. are heavily dependent on the real-time clock of the game. Because of this, the age-old tradition of time traveling in the Animal Crossing series has been used by various players. It is generally known that time-traveling is a double-edged sword and it is up to the player's decision if he will take the risk knowing the disadvantages that comes with the process itself.

How to Time Travel

Basically, there are 2 possible ways to time-travel. First is by adjusting the Nintendo DS internal clock, by going to the console main menu which can be accessed if you have set the start-up mode to manual. Secondly, you can time-travel by adjusting the in-game clock itself. This can be done by adjusting the in-game clock differently from the DS internal clock either during the first parts of the game when Kapp'n asks for the time and date; or through the telephone located in the save room of your home when you recently continued an existing game and your character is still sleeping.

Below are the advantages and disadvantages of time-traveling:

Advantages

* Can take advantage of controlling or resetting the clock to check when is the best time available for Tom Nook to sell turnips at very high prices. Also, time control allows you to choose a particular time preventing the turnips from spoiling.

* Players can deposit 10000 bells or more if desired to his/ her savings account in The Post Office, time travel to the farthest year possible, and earn a lot of money afterwards. You can even travel back in time and repeat the trick as much as you can.

* Players can fast forward to the future to meet a special event or go back in time if they missed it.

* Skip the waiting time and immediately forward to a visiting time with a villager.

* Makes obtaining the Golden Rod and Golden Net much easier by fast forwarding to times when the Bugs or Fishes players are looking for are available.

* Skip all the work and fast forward to the future to instantly finish various tasks from villagers.

* Take advantage of going back in time to attend missed birthday parties and receive presents.

* Get another chance to shoot down missed present balloons or UFOs flying above.

Disadvantages

* Weeds will spread like crazy. One way to overcome this is to put some design patterns in your town, which will cause weeds to not grow in the area already occupied by the pattern. Unfortunately, too much patterns can also lead to some glitches.

* Going back in time will make ALL planted Red Turnips and White Turnips in your possession spoil.

* Villagers will move out of your town and even the ones left will have low camaraderie with your character.

* Skipping too far into the future might make you miss out the exact date of expansion for Tom Nook's shop, which results in you missing the upgrade entirely.

* Time-specific quests cannot be completed when you skip time.

* Various glitches such as the Red Turnip Glitch, etc. will unfortunately be triggered.

I retract my last statement.

vhayste, I do believe you are completely wrong about this, respectfully stating so. I have provided a link I ran across after accidentally time traveling. My barcode on the outside of my DSi is rubbed of & I needed my S/N for something. So I took out my battery to write it down. While doing so, it reset the date/time on my DSi. So I had to reset that in my system. It did not effect the game whatsoever. I'm positive I was off by minutes. I checked my game, Nook still let me use the catalog. So, since my main available playtime is at night after he is closed. I figured "If the damage is done, I might as well time travel so I can play & sell things at night (changing the time to earlier this afternoon)." I did, & I am still able to use the catalog.
