Without doubt the most badass piece of crime fighting equipment on the planet is the batmobile and it has seen many variations over the years as Batman waged his never-ending war against crime in Gotham City. Which one is the best though is difficult to say as each has had an array of abilities that differ from what has come before and there have been so many different styles and shapes. Listed below is my personal opinion on what are the top 5 Batmobiles ever.
#1: 1989 Batmobile
Michael Keaton's Batmobile from Tim Burton's Batman movie in 1989 looked like something a Depression-era gangster would drive. This sleek, intimidating looking Batmobile had a jet turbine engine and a 'Cocoon Mode' which enabled the vehicle to wrap itself in armour.
#2: 2016 Batmobile
Based on Frank Millers Dark Knight Returns comics, Ben Afflicks Batmobile in Zack Snyder's 2016 Dawn of Justice is a hybrid of prototype military and civilian performance technologies. These have then been integrated with the latest in covert military grade armanents, stealth and active protection systems to create a vehicle that looks contemporary, effective, and very 'Bat'.
#3: 2005 Batmobile
Looking more like a military battle tank than a Batmobile, Christian Bale's Tumbler first appeared in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns comics before making it's big screen debut in christopher Nolans Batman Begins. Initially designed as a military vehicle with the ability to jump vertically 4-6 feet high and equipped to drive off immediately after landing it was intended to aid in building temporary bridging devices to carry troops and asupplies over water and vast open space.
#4: 1992 Batmobile
Although inspired by Tim Burton's 1989 Batman movie, the Batmobile featured in the Batman: The Animated Series had it's own distinct sense of aesthetics. It combined the show's 30's and 40's retro design sensibilty with awe-inspiring and cool with its square lines, long fins, and blunt nose with slatted grill.
#5: 1966 Batmobile
Arguably the most famous Batmobile, this vehicle was created for the 1966 live-action television series. It was basically a muscle car that was painted black and plastered with Bat symbols that Adam West would take off to battle against whatever extravagantly-coloured foe happened to threaten Gotham City that week.
