#1 - Star Wars (Debut 1977)

Set on alien worlds Star Wars is the tale of good versus evil, corruption and redemption as it revolves around the Galactic Civil War of the Rebel Alliance trying to free the galaxy from the crutches of the Galactic Empire. After the destruction of the Twelve Colonies of Mankind, the only remaining fighter carrier 'Galactica' leads a makeshift fugitive fleet on a desperate search for the legendary planet Earth. Originally a TV series that was regarded as just a Star Wars rip-off Battlestar Galactica has evolved into a popular franchise thanks to a revitalised and reimagined version of the science-fiction series that was released in 2004.

#5 - Dr Who (1963)

This British TV series depicts the adventures of a renegade Time Lord who is an eccentric, highly-intelligent scientist from a distant planet. 'the Doctor' travels through time and space in the Tardis, a device that is larger on the inside than on the outside, which was designed to change its appearance to suit its surroundings. Dr Who is a significant part of British popular culture, one which gained legions of new fans when it was revived in 2005.
