Each pokemon belongs to a specific type as well as the moves they can learn. Different types have their own specific strengths and weaknesses over the other. Knowing the relationship between these types is vital in Pokemon battles and encounters, adding depth to the strategy. If you wish to become a Pokemon champion, it is imperative to have more than enough information about you and your opponent's pokemon's strengths or weaknesses.

heh, I'm just using this so I can kick the Gym Leaders's butts ^_^ . It really helped! (I could find the right pokemon to knock em out!) Hopefully, it isn't considered 'cheating.'
But I'm a noob at this, so whatever.

Pokémon are sometimes two different types, for example Wingull is a water/flying Pokémon Using a grass move would be super effective against water but not very effective against flying and would result in a normal attack. Using an electric attack would be super effective against both water and flying and would result in the move being 4x as powerful.
