Seals are valuable items needed to Promote character classes to more powerful advanced ones, change their classes entirely, or even reset their levels back to LV1, retaining their current stats and class while giving them room to grow further. In our Master Seals and Secondary Seals guide, we will discuss how to obtain these valuable class change items and consider the various factors in deciding when to use them.

Fire Emblem Engage is a latest installation for the critically-acclaimed Fire Emblem series, offering a fresh approach to the tried-and tested tactical, turn-based JRPG formula fans have seen in recent years. Players are treated with the return of the Triangle System, weapons with no durability, and of course, the fresh new Emblem/Bond Ring mechanic.

Master Seals

Master Seals are required for promoting your units to more powerful Advance Classes. These are valuable items that will be hard to come by in the early chapters so using them sparingly early on is highly encouraged. For more information about the Fire Emblem Engage’s promotion mechanic, please refer to our dedicated guide page for it.

Thankfully, the game does allow you to obtain Master Seals in the earlier chapters through chests, enemy drops, etc. The Somniel’s Item Shop also restocks this item after completing select chapters. Only when you clear Chapter 18 will these Seals become permanently available in the Item Shop. Prior to that, you have to carefully manage and decide who will get promoted first.

This is a table of all master seal locations and sources prior to Chapter 18. Some of these are missable so watch out. Each Master Seals sold by the Item Shop costs 2,500 gold. If you have the Silver Card (from the Expansion Pass), this price will go down to an affordable 1,750 gold.

Chapter Location
Paralogue: Mysterious Merchant Inside one of the three treasure chests in the map.
Chapter 7 Defeat Hortensia
Chapter 9 Buy from Item Shop (Stock: 1)
Chapter 10 Defeat Hyacinth
Chapter 11 Defeat the archer guarding the exit. This can be missed if you did not defeat this enemy before Alear steps on the exit tile.
Chapter 12 Save all the NPCs then talk to them post-battle while in Exploration mode.
Chapter 12 Back in Somniel, you can buy two pieces from the Item Shop
Chapter 14 Purchase from the Item Shop (Stock: 2)
Chapter 15 Purchase from the Item Shop (Stock: 2)
Chapter 16 Defeat Marni
Chapter 17 Purchase from the Item Shop (Stock: 2)
Chapter 17 Defeat Veyle
Chapter 18 Permanently available at the Item Shop

Secondary Seals

Secondary Seals are used to change a unit’s base class to another base class or a unit’s advanced class to another (or the same) advanced class. This allows players to change “jobs'' for their characters in case they want a preferred team composition. Furthermore, second seals also allow you to reset advanced unit back to LV1 while retaining their current stats, class, and class skill. Resetting levels back to LV1 enables the unit to continue leveling up without detrimental effects.

Second Seals get restocked in the Item Shop at the same time as the Master Seals but in higher numbers. If you’re not able to purchase all Seals, don’t worry since they won’t go anywhere. Whenever the Item Shop restocks its inventory after some chapters, any seals you have purchased will remain and new stocks will just add up to them. Gold can be hard to come by in the game so you can just save up and purchase seals as you need them.
