Code Vein is a third-person action-RPG played from a third-person perspective. Set in the not too distant future a series of catastrophic strikes known as the Thorns of Judgement have wrought havok on the world as we know it. In a closed-off city referred to as 'Vein' vampiric revenants fight for and against one another over supplies of blood, risking their sanity and becoming feral creatures known as the 'Lost' if they don’t consume enough of it. Check out our walkthrough, guide, strategy page to get help in this post-apocalyptic game .

Walkthrough, Guide, Strategy

Turn Off Finishers

If you find that the special finisher animations are starting to get annoying you can turn them off. This is done by opening up your 'Settings' menu and going to 'Game Settings'. The option to turn off finisher animations is the very first item on the list.

Reclaim XP

If your character dies during a fight you need to make sure you return to the place where you died as Code Vein has the same 'One strike and you're out' deal from Dark Souls, where you only get to keep your XP if you manage to reclaim it.

Alternate Paths

Hidden throughout the world of Code Vein are alternate paths that are concealed by destructible boxes and debris. These are easy to spot and break and worthwhile opening up as these paths can sometimes be shortcuts that skirt through gauntlets you've already managed to wade through. The entrance of these alternate paths also often contain bonus loot.

Sub Weapons

Don't worry about overburdening yourself with sub-weapons. In Code Vein carrying more weight reduces your ability to dodge and swing weapons. Your character's weight limit is only affected by what they have equipped so the items you have in your inventory don't count. This means your sub-weapons, the weapons your character can switch to during a fight with a single button press also don't count unless you have them drawn.

Build Around One Weapon

Although you have the ability to equip and swap between two weapons in Code Vein it is advised that you pick one weapon and fully kit it out. The reason being is that weapons drain Ichor quickly and none of the enemies are weaker to specific weapons. Investing all your materials into making one strong weapon is more beneficial than splitting your limited ore between two.

Regen Upgrades

Scattered around the world of Code Vein are regen upgrades which each have a limited number of charges that reset every time you rest at a Mistle. In order to heal, and restore your regeneration charges when you are at a Mistle you actually need to stop what you are doing and select the 'Rest' option. Make sure you use them to heal when you need to otherwise they will just sit in your inventory and be no help.

Use Magic

Magic is invaluable in Code Vein, make sure you always have at least one decent projectle, spell-type Gift at your disposal. Having magic can help you in many ways, it can be used to pick off weak enemies, interrupt attacks, and lure enemies away to avoid getting pincered. Casting a spell when you open an engagement with a tough enemy can weaken them considerably, particularly if your build focuses on Willpower or Mind.

Keep Your Partner Alive

In Code Vein you can take one partner with you on your adventures and they are an asset as they have the ability to resurrect you within a short window after you have lost all your health. Partners can also interrupt and kill enemies, call out loot and secrets as you explore, and use powerful Communal Gifts. Choose your partner carefully and keep them alive using the neutral Gift that shares your health with them. This Gift can also resurrect your partner if they go down, so always keep it on your bar.

Before you Fight Each Successor Collect and Restore Vestiges

Later in the story you will encounter Successors, these are the three major boss fights in Code Vein that you need to win to complete the game. The dungeons that these Successors inhabit contain multiple Vestiges related to that Successor's past. If you manage to find and restore all these Vestiges before defeating the Successor you will unlock a bonus after the post-fight cutscene.
