Check out our Bastion Walkthrough and Guide to to find out how you can help 'the Kid' accomplish his mission.
Note: the following walkthrough and guide is for the iOS version of the game which is now available for free at the iOS Store until the end of 2019.
Recommended Starting Weapons
Two weapons that are useful in the first few levels of Bastion are the War Machete and the Breaker's Bow. The War Machete does well against enemies at close range and the Breaker's Bow can destroy two turrets with one shot. Get three Carrion Bones to upgrade your Repeater crossbow, this weapon is fast and deals more damage than the Breaker's Bow. If you equip the homing upgrade it always finds its target.
Where to get the Fang Repeater
This weapon can be found early in Bastion in the Wild Outskirts, it is a rapid-fire ranged weapon with limited number of cartridges. It cannot be fired while moving. The Secret Skill of the Fang Repeater is Bolt Burst and Snooze Dart. Check out our Weapons Guide to find out where you can find all the different weapons that are available in Bastion.
How to use the Dueling Pistols
The best way to use the Dueling Pistols is to hold the Fire button to auto-aim and spam fire. When you do this the pistols will automatically empty and reload after a target is dispatched. The Secret Skill of the Dueling Pistols is Duel Decider.
Weapon Upgrade Materials
Use the following items at the Forge to upgrade the corresponding weapon.
• Something Heavy: Cael Hammer
• Something Stringy: Breaker's Bow
• Something Nasty: Fang Repeater
• Something Sharp: War Machete
• Something Coarse: Scrap Musket
• Something Greasy: Dueling Pistols
• Something Pointy: Brusher's Pike
• Something Fancy: Army Carbine
• Something Burnt: Galleon Mortar
• Something Foul: Flame Bellows
• Something Wrong: Calamity Cannon
How to change a Spirit Tonic
Whenever you level up in Bastion you will get a 'Spirits Slot'. A 'Spirit Tonic' is a passive effect that lasts while you have the 'Spirit' equipped. You can always change the Spirit Tonics you have equiped at a distillery. There are two types of Spirit Tonics; Health and Black.
How to beat the Bullhead Court Shield Challenge
Immediately after blocking an attack, keep blocking. Some turrets will shoot four balls, or a hidden monster may attack. If you have two hits or less against the final enemy, stand directly next to the edge and wait for him to charge before jumping off. He should follow you off the cliff, and you will only get one hit. Note: Although it states that the requirement for a gold medal is two or fewer hits, you can actually be hit three times and still qualify.
How to beat the Breaker Barracks Challenge
To win the Breaker Barracks Challenge, you must destroy all the targets with as few shots as possible. Upgrade the Breaker's Bow with +50% damage to destroy the targets in a single shot (without a power shot). You can easily upgrade the Breaker's Bow by earning a bronze medal to get Something Stringy.
How to beat the Trapper Shingle Challenge
Upgade your Fang Repeater at least once before attempting this challenge where you need to kill all the targets before your way falls. The best strategy is to lock on to your targets until you empty your magazine, then roll forward while reloading.
How to beat the Scrap Yard Challenge
Even if you have a fully upgraded Cael Hammer this challenge will come down to the last few seconds. The best strategy is to try and hit several targets in one swing and never stop moving. First place requires you to destroy 100 objects in 27 seconds or less.
How to beat the Slinger Range Challenge
Upgrade the Dueling Pistols so you have Sealed Cylinders, this will prevent any of your shots from scattering. When in the course use your auto-aim button as soon as a target appears and fire as quickly as possible. First place requires you to score 700 or more. You cannot get negative points so begin shooting just before the first target appears to get a few extra points.
How to beat the Camp Dauncy Challenge
The most importing thing in this challenge is timing. Make sure you only kill enemies that are blocking your path and move as quickly as possible by utilising the throw function on a fully upgraded Brusher's Pike. To get first place requires you to activate every button in 60 seconds or less.
How to beat Zulwood Grove Challenge
This challenge is easy if you have an upgraded Scrap Musket as you will be able to use the generous cone of fire of the weapon to shoot the balloons off in groups. To get first place requires you to use 15 shots or less.
